Lucille Uttermohlen practiced family law for 31 years. She started “Your Law Lady” to help divorcing couples save money on divorce. Too many times, lawyers get involved before common sense makes an appearance. As a result, couples end up spending thousands of dollars pursuing things they don’t really need, want, or especially enjoy just because they are convinced that “winning” is their most important goal.
Lawyers are known to encourage this paper chase. It is their training to get the best for their clients. Where their training often fails is in defining what the best is.
Emotions are raw during divorce. Clients can’t be objective about what is important. This is because they are in too much pain to think clearly. They end up chasing microwave ovens that they can replace at Walmart, or trying to hide assets just to show they can, despite the unnecessary annoyance and pain they cause their spouses, and the lack of good they do themselves in the process.
The materials on this site are written to help couples clarify what is important. I emphasize what judges are looking for when they make decisions in divorce, and when children are involved, child custody. I am not saying that restraining orders, protective orders and discovery requests are always a waste of time. I merely suggest that you should always know not only what you’re doing, but why you’re doing it. To achieve this, you need clear, objective information. This is what “Your Law Lady” is all about.
